Patch Abilities Monthly Program

I have been doing a little sewing lately and really enjoying it. This week I finished the Iris, Lighthouse and Watermelon Patch Abilities kits. Do you know about Patch Abilities? These are such fun small projects that really make a big impact. Each design is fat eighths friendly and scrap happy! These make a fast and easy summertime project. Have a little extra time or just need a break from your other sewing? Discover these charming designs that are fun to create and the perfect decoration for your home! This fun design is fast to finish with fused, machine and Blanket-Stitched appliqué. In fact, the Blanket Stitches double as quilting because they’re worked through all the quilt layers! Have fun and add buttons to accents. Once your appliqués are stitched, just add the binding and hang your little quilt on the wall! The Iris seasonal design is part of a 12 month series that you can think of as a version of a block/hanging of the month! Beautiful and stately this is one flower from your garden that will never die. The Watermelon Picnic and the Lighthouse are not part of the 12 month program but are extra patterns you can purchase. Kit Includes: All fabrics (including binding and backing), picture, pattern and complete instructions. Please keep in mind we cannot maintain stock to perfectly match the fabrics shown in the pattern but we will stay in the color-way. You need to Provide: Fusible webbing, optional buttons, quilt hanger Batting and Embroidery Floss. Each pattern Includes a picture, pattern and complete instructions. Finish size is approximately 6"x 21". Hang your project on a small quilt hanger if desired. Happy Day! Wendy

Summertime Quilting

Well it is 'almost' official. Summer is here. Some children I know have their last week of school this week, amazing. Have you got your vacation travel plans all booked? According to the Travel Industry Association, even with the increasing gas rates, American households will take 180 million leisure trips by automobile this summer. So before you start your next auto trip, consider sewing this cute activity bag, color coordinate one for each of your children. Do not feel bound by the pattern, making it just the way the pattern says, customize these to your child’s interests. For the family artist, add colored crayons or markers and a drawing pad or coloring books. If you have a budding journalist in your family, make one filled with lined paper and an assortment of writing instruments. Maybe this child can be the official recorder of your travels. For young children, consider adding cloth story books, puzzle books, color crayons and paper. Add more pockets for pencils, and other craft items. Got tweens (children between 8-12 years old)? Well we have a project for you. Pack their activity bag with the new Clover yo-yo maker and a pack of charms and needle and thread. Get them involved in making yo-yo’s with the new clover yo-yo makers. They can decorate their clothes, their shoes or even start a yo-yo quilt. We will soon be having a great flyer on this blog for decorating your flip flops with yo-yos. What about English paper-piecing a wonderful hand project of tweens, teens and yes adults. You will love the way this project can all be done by hand. English Paper Piecing allows you to carry a project with you at all times tucked in a corner of your purse or a small bag. You can piece in airplanes, in waiting rooms, at hospitals, at sporting events, and traveling in the car. If you have a few minutes, you can easily take it out and work on it. I hope you enjoy this summer sewing and quilting ideas. Look for more in the near future. Happy Day! Wendy

Gifts for Dads and Grads

Looking for a quick gift in time for Father’s Day (June 15th) or a Graduation? Well here is a great easy sew pattern that you can make in time for any upcoming event. Black and white fabrics are really the rage now and combine them with any bright color combination, like orange (as seen here) or red, and you have made a bold graphic quilt statement. I can see this great quilt going to the dorms at college. The dark colors won’t pick up the dirt and the safari fabrics are really “in”. The Safari III Quilt is a free pattern from Blank Textiles you can download the free pattern here. The big 8 1/2″ squares make this a quick sew quilt. Quilt designed by Janet Houts measures 59″ X 70″ a perfect size for Dad to snuggle up with or a Grad to make the center of their dorm room décor. Consider making a matching pillowcase, which can also become a gift bag when you present the gift. Need a pattern for a quick pillowcase you can get one here. You can find these three fun safari prints here. If you do not like Safari prints, consider this quilt in a beautiful floral or a fun children’s fabric the possibilities are endless. So look beyond the fabrics and colors to see the real range of options this quilt can provide for anyone. Happy Day! Wendy

Boost Your Creative Thinking Part V

This is the last week in our discussion of Creative Thinking. If you missed the previous articles, you can see them in my blog archives. The last letter in the acronym of SAEDI which is IDEAS back-wards, we consider: I - Ink. Whether you use ink, pencil lead, crayon, or a computer, write down your ideas. We retain more of what we hear or see if we write it down. That applies equally to college lectures and our own brainstorming sessions. Make Notes Any Time, Any Place: Get in the habit of making notes, outlines, sketches, or doodles. If you are actively pursuing a specific idea or problem, always have paper and pencil or recorder at the ready. Jot down or record all your thoughts, no matter how "off-the-wall." Keep a Notebook By Your Bed: Some of your best thoughts come just before falling asleep and just after waking. Keep a notebook at your bedside so you will always be ready to write down ideas whenever they come. Create an Inspiration File: Whether it's a file folder, a notebook, or an entire file cabinet, keep clippings, thumbnail sketches, junk mail, photos, and anything else that inspires you or gives you ideas. You Are A Creative Person The next time you start to think "I can never come up with good ideas," think back-wards. There are a countless number of useful ideas and innovative thoughts in all of us -- if we take the time to learn to think and act creatively.
Happy Day! Wendy
