Laurel Burch Christmas Collection

Bountiful Blessings is the Christmas fabric collection that Laurel Burch was working on when she died - much too young, from a rare bone disease.  She was quite a lady - her obituary tells a lot about her.

We got the whole collection in today, its all posted in the 'newest' section.

Tonight is sew-in, and I'll get the no-flour cake recipe from Marquerite to share with you all. Barb Harrison says I must have a very pale green thumb - I think she's right!

Achmed the dead terrorist and Laurel Burch

Have I mentioned that I am taking online classes to get a fine arts degree?  This semester I'm taking still life painting and a sculpture class.  The painting class is fun, but the sculpture class is just plain hard.  This week I had to make a skull.   We had to copy from a plaster model and turn in pictures of the model beside our skull.  Mine is below, but one of my classmates found some googly eyes and made this week fun:

My skull

If you haven't seen Achmed the dead terrorist, you need to Google it and watch the Utube video, he's a ventriloquist's dummy, and he's very funny.  My classmate's skull:

Her skull

Okay, enough skulls - my guy is back in the clay bucket.  I have one more head to do, then the semester is over.  Thank goodness - back to drawing and painting!

We are getting in a great Laurel Burch collection.  Some of it came Friday, and some today.  I was kind of waiting for the whole thing before I put in online, but I'll put what we have online tomorrow, I promise.

The tiniest daffodil

Last fall, I got all excited about a 'bulb garden' from High Mountain Gardens.  The picture showed a row of grape hyacinths, behind that a row of daffodils, and behind that a row of something tall and blue.  It was really pretty.  So I dug up a flower bed that had previously had some very old tulips and a bunch of assorted perennials.  I was aware that my rows weren't real straight, but that didn't bother me, I kind of like the random planting look anyway.

A couple weeks ago, the grape hyacinths came up.  They are really tiny, but the only other thing that has bloomed in the bed is a clump of the very elderly tulips.  There are various kinds of bulb leaves coming up every which way, and every day I've looked for the daffodils.  They've always been one of my favorite flowers.  This morning, there was still no sign of a daffodil bloom.  Then, late this afternoon, I saw it!  The bloom can't be 3/4 inch across, and it is only about 2 inches off the ground - smaller than the grape hyacinths, but it is a perfect teensy weensy daffodil - the smallest one I've ever seen!  I knew I should have dug in that bulb food they sent with the bulbs!

Teeny Daffodil

Kathi commented that she wants the no flour cake recipe - I'll have Marquerite bring it Tuesday night, and I'll post it Wednesday.  She mentioned graham cracker crumbs, but I'll get the exact recipe.

Calendar Girls, and my new Wolf

Today was Calendar Girls, and we had a great group, with lots of good show and tell.  The Calendar quilt for this month is Trillium.  Four or five people had actually made last month's quilt which was a row quilt with trees, stars and houses.  The girls that will be putting on the Lovell show came and brought the raffle quilt for this year, which is gorgeous - I'll post a picture of it on Monday's blog.

Sylvia Gautier from Cody brought a quilt she made for me - Winter Wolf.  We have the pattern on our website, in the new patterns section.

Here is Sylvia with my new quilt. My new wolf quilt
